NOSTALGIA
"I had to leave my home to become a person who can decide freely."
The longing for faraway places seems like a promise of freedom. A place where we can realise and rediscover ourselves. We try to go beyond the horizon of our own existence. But in the search for
a place of belonging, homesickness flares up. The desire for family or community. We long for grandma's apple pie and for a place where we feel understood and welcome.
Wanderlust and homesickness - two emotions that could not be more different and that challenge us to question our own and the foreign. Or is our home and at the same time our curiosity for the
foreign not simply to be found in the relationships and connections we make?
In NOSTALGIA, choreographer Eva Borrmann explores the meaning of wanderlust and homesickness, using language, movement and sound to express emotions. Together with author Robert Krupar and
scenographer Daina Kasperowtisch, she uses interviews with people of different ages and cultures to weave a tapestry of stories that come together on stage with a wide variety of bodies. Five
short stories are created, which are embodied by an ensemble of four performers from a wide range of cultures and ages.
NOSTALGIA thus creates a space in which inner dialogues on the subject of wanderlust and homesickness become visible through text and body. - The theatre thus becomes a place that encourages us
to rethink our ideas of belonging and identity and celebrates the diversity of human experience.
